When trying to open Internet Explorer you receive the error message "An Unexpected Error has occurred..."

Summary: Customer can get connected, but is unable to open any web pages, and is unable to get email. Usually the result of a problem with the wsock32.dll file or the winsock.dll file.

Resolution:

Check the wsock32.dll file.
Click on <Start><Find><Files or Folders>
In the Named filed type wsock32.dll.
The file should be located in the Windows\System directory.
In Windows 95 the file should be 65kb, and in Windows 98 the file should be 40kb.
Check the winsock.dll file.
Click on <Start><Find><Files or Folders>.
In the Named field type in winsock.dll.
The file should be in the Windows directory.
In Windows 95 the file should be 42kb, and in Windows 98 the file should be 21kb.

There may be a few things wrong at this point. There may be multiple wsock32.dll or winsock.dll files, the file may be the wrong size, or it may be in the wrong location.

If the file is the wrong size rename the file and then extract a new wsock32.dll, or winsock.dll file.
If the file is missing extract a new wsock32.dll, or winsock.dll file.
If there are multiple wsock32.dll files in the Windows\System directory, or multiple winsock.dll files in the Windows directory, remove all but one of them.
